Serving Wisconsin and Illinois
Gardening from the Heart Gardeners are starting to plant their garden crops. Many fruits, tomatoes, peppers, and squash will be in abundance. Think about the less fortunate when you have too many veggies! The local food pantries are opening their doors to more and more households each year in need of assistance. Many of these pantries now have the facilities to accept fresh garden produce. All families, schools, and garden clubs are encouraged to start gardening from the heart. Richmond Garden Club will be scheduling local pick-ups of produce for the Richmond Food Pantry. Visit them at http://www.richmondgardenclub.org/ or call Barb Gallegos at 815-712-6162 for pick-up dates and time. The Nippersink Garden Club is scheduling local pick-ups for the Genoa City Food Pantry on Wednesday evenings. Contact Stacy VanHoorn to schedule a weekly pick-up of your produce. 262- 279-5992 June The Spring Grove Fish Hatchery is one location in which we are considering for club meetings and events. The beauty of this public park is truely appreciated by all members as we watch the numerous renovations taking place on the grounds, the ponds, and in the main education building. April

Tour of the organic farms of Rich Tobiasz- One of the best tours we have taken this year, we learned how this farm reaps and sows fresh produce almost 365 days a year. We had a special treat of coffee with fresh goat's cream and warm blueberry muffins with cream cheese made that morning! Yummy!

Tour & Lecture - Ed Lyon of Centennial Gardens gave a presentation on "The Shade Garden."
A nearly 2 hour lecture on soil structure and garden planning was one of the most delightful and informative lectures that we have ever been to. Two green thumbs up to Ed! The ladies were too tired after shopping and viewing the gardens to sit through a formal meeting. We felt it best to wait until July.

Spring Grove Fish Hatchery -
Our club met for a private tour of these beautiful grounds. It may be a few years before this park is open and fully functional to the public. Our meeting was held at the Nippersink Public Lirary following the tour. An informative lecture was given by Stacy VanHoorn on the benefits of incorporating native plants into the home garden. Many native plants were raffled off at the meeting to help fund our club activities.

4-18-09 Nippersink Garden Club's First Meeting -
Our first club meeting was a success! We met at the home of Jan Erdmann in Spring Grove. We enjoyed a tour of her well-manicured gardens and abundant koi pond. There was more food than anyone could possibly eat, and it was a beautiful day to have a meeting outdoors. Everyone came up with some wonderful plans and ideas for forming our new club. We all agreed that it should be a time for fun, gardening education, and sharing a wealth of knowledge, as well as sharing our over-abundance of plants and seeds with our members. Future plans for our surrounding communities will unfold as our club grows. Nominations were made for President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Veteran's Park -
Located on Fellows Road in Genoa City, the Nippersink Creek meanders through this beautiful park. The
gardens are maintained by the Master Gardeners Club of Wisconsin. The small pavilion would be perfect
for meetings, and the large pavilion could be used for large events or community fundraisers.
Country Thunder Fair Grounds-
Richard will be opening a Farmer's Market at his Country Thunder Fair Grounds in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Along with the many booths for rent, he has agreed to hold a charity booth this fall so the club may donate the proceeds of our sales to the local food pantries.
